Reading Festival: Steve’s Sunday
Sep 2nd
So, this is the final in my informal, quick comments on the bands I saw at Reading Festival. I hope you've enjoyed them!
Goldheart Assembly
I saw these guys originally playing a very similar slot early in the day at Larmer Tree Festival earlier in the summer. I have to say that at Larmer Tree, they interested me, but didn't blow me away. The sound set up on Reading's NME/Radio 1 stage was significantly better, and so despite a basically empty tent, I was much more impressed with them this time around. Their songs are really well structured, with the vocals being the main vehicle through which the band explore some pretty interesting volume dynamics. Furthermore, vocally, they are perfect, engaging and well worth a listen. A little more variation in the set would complete it, as well as getting a festival slot where the main stage has a bigger crowd then the coffee queue.

This is the second of my fairly informal day reviews. Enjoy!
Mystery Jets
I am a fan of Mystery Jets; they have had a big, busy summer and deserved their main stage slot this year, even if it was pretty early in the day. They still seem like a new band, fresh on the scene, and it is easy to forget that their excellent recent album Serotinin is actually their fourth release. For that reason, they undoubtedly have enough depth to pull off decent main stage performance. It has to be said that their slower, more thoughtful songs didn't really capture the imagination of the audience, possibly due to levels issues, but when the energy went up a notch, they were decent. Clearly enjoyed themselves. Highlight of the set has to be Two Doors Down.

Passafire in a Forest
This week's featured band are Passafire, a Reggae-Rock band from South Eastern USA. New Music Transmission caught up with Passafire to discuss the next album, the upcoming Vans Warped Tour, and the musical value of Nashville. Their song, Here in Front of Me, is now available from our podcast feed. Also, this weekend, Jack will be back in the studio after his short break, and we will be discussing Passafire, along with giving some brief thoughts on the upcoming Reading Festival.
NMT: How would you describe your sound to someone who had never heard you?
Passafire: I would describe Passafire's sound as a danceable, original mash up of reggae and progressive rock. A sound that is wholly unique and at the same time catchy and groovin'. We'd like to think that what we do is pushing reggae in a new direction, without abandoning its roots and beginnings.
